The Tezos DeFi Hackathon 2022

The start of the Tezos DeFi Hackathon 2022 kicked off with 1,125 registered developers that are participating.

The team registration form has officially closed and the 1,125 participants have formed a total of 150 teams. The teams will be supported by a total of 10 technical mentors and 28 team mentors.

Since we covered the announcement in the beginning of this year, Tezos Ukraine onboarded 10 more mentors, added 6 challenges, and increased our prize pool by $60K since then.

The total prize pool now adds up to $260,000 from almost 16 Tezos-based DeFi (14 Tezos-based and  2 Everscale-based that want to bring their tech to Tezos and Ever Surf looks to bring DeBot tech to manage Tezos Wallet) projects and Tezos Foundation.

Teams can win up to $45,000.

During the grand opening 4 workshops were broadcasted on the biggest Russian crypto related Youtube channel. Due to high interest, Tezos Ukraine decided to scale up

Vlad Likhuta from Tezos Ukraine explains:

“We planned 10 challenges: no more than 3 teams per challenge and 2 challenges per team. But the number of participants turned out to be more than expected, so we made sure that there were enough prizes for everyone.

We contacted the hackathon partners, who submitted 6 more challenges and increased the prize pool to $260,000.”

The additional challenges are:

  • Baking Bad: Portfolio manager.
  • TriliTech: Tezos DeFi dashboard.
  • TriliTech: Tezos DeFi/Dex Bot.
  • Mavryk: Balancer for tokensales.
  • Broxus: Bridge between Everscale and Tezos.
  • Ever Surf: DeBot to manage Tezos wallets.

The challenges that were announced earlier are:

  • Plenty DeFi: A marketplace for liquidity bonds to contribute to stopping outflow of liquidity from pools.
  • Kolibri: Alternative frontend for farms, pools and ovens on Kolibri
  • Quipuswap: a proze-for-all-lottery that increases liquidity pool levels with players’ funds.
  • SalsaDAO: Put and call options that utilizes Tezos’ native Harbinger oracle
  • Ubinetic: A game with random oracle-based parameters. Including a uUSD betting option.
  • Tezos Domains: Dappetizer-based API with UI compares the pair exchange rates across different DEXs and shows current and past opportunities for arbitrage deals.
  • Tezotopia – A game that uses the concept of state channels for upscaling. It has to use UNO as in-game currency.
  • Juster: Custom bets with custom logic based on Juster.fi
  • Flame DeFi: A service that either grants access to users who have an x token on balance or charges them ervery second in x tokens.
  • Crunchy DeFi: A decentralized bridge to transfer assets between Avalange (AVAX) and Tezos both ways.

Secondly, the rules have been adjusted: up to 10 teams work on one challenge, one team takes only 1 challenge.

Thirdly, 19 new mentors have joined us. These are both technical- and team mentors. The technical mentors are the blockchain devs from some of the best Tezos teams.

Looking for an answer to particular smart contract related problems could take valuable time off the project, so asking a technical mentor a question is an option that is made available in the hackathon.

The team mentors help out on another level and are experienced majors representing businesses.

In most cases, teams are created at the start of the hackathon, and the lack of a strong and disciplined leader could result in missed deadlines or lost motivation. Team mentors will help organise processes and see the project to its conclusion.

On February 1, we opened the hackathon with a big broadcast on the ForkLog YouTube channel: the organizers talked about Tezos and the hackathon, partners presented challenges, and technical mentors held workshops.

The opening lasted 5 hours, and in a few days 3,000 people watched the recording of the opening.

On February 3, the participants were able to choose challenges. The teams snapped up the most popular challenges in 2-3 minutes: a game with oracle-based random from Ubinetic and a prized-for-all lottery from Quipuswap.

Registration is closed, the participants are working. Follow Tezos Ukraine to stay updated on the progress of the hackathon.

“The goal of the hackathon is to discover new talents and create as many cool DeFi products as possible. Not just discover, though. We want them to get enough funds for the development. We aim to bring even more life to the ecosystem.

We’d like to once again thank all the partners of the Tezos DeFi Hackathon 2022 for making it possible.
