Switzerland for UNHCRObjkt, the Tezos FoundationThe Collectors Club and ArtMeta announce a collaborative fundraising project to celebrate digital art for good, bringing together ten visionary artists who will donate sales proceeds to the UNHCR Climate Resilience Fund

As climate-related disasters escalate, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, finds itself at the forefront of relief efforts, grappling with the urgent needs of vulnerable populations across the globe. Recent floods in Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul have not only claimed lives but also displaced over half a million people, including 43,000 refugees from Venezuela, Haiti, and Cuba. In Afghanistan and East Africa, similar scenes of devastation unfold as floods wreak havoc, leaving behind a trail of destruction and despair. Amidst funding shortfalls threatening the agency’s capacity to mitigate these crises, the “Nowhere to Run” fundraising sale emerges as a platform for collective action and support towards building climate-resilient communities and safeguarding the most vulnerable.

Artworks by the ten artists will be unveiled during Digital Art Mile, a new digital art fair by ArtMeta coming to Basel during Art Basel week. The fair is free to the public and open from June 10th to June 16th, located at Rebgasse 31, in close proximity to the Art Basel main art fair.

The artists participating in the fundraiser have already made a name for themselves in the digital realm and for many, it will be the first time exhibiting during the prestigious Art Basel week in Basel. The collection features Goldcat, UczineViolet BondMEK.txtlechatn0irMarjan MoghaddamAlida SunEduardo KacSabato and Diane Drubay. The artworks will be sold as NFTs minted on the Tezos blockchain via the platform Objkt.com and each artist will donate a minimum of 50 % of the sales volume to the UNHCR Climate Resilience Fund

As climate change intensifies, so does its impact on displaced populations, escalating the challenges in already dire circumstances. Many of these individuals find themselves with ‘’nowhere to run’’, facing an increased frequency and severity of climate-related disruptions. By bringing these pressing issues to the forefront, UNHCR hopes to catalyze a stronger response.

“Art has always been a fantastic way to raise awareness about important causes such as climate change. It is also important to make people aware of the specific impact that climate has on displaced populations, who are most vulnerable to climate-caused disasters. The “Nowhere To Run” initiative will help raise awareness on this growing challenge and inspire collective action towards sustainable and inclusive solutions,” says Alvaro Cosi, Head of Innovation at Switzerland for UNHCR.

“This fundraising initiative highlights the powerful synergy between art and blockchain technology in advancing social good. Artists have a remarkable capacity to raise awareness about critical global challenges, and the digital nature of their work transcends borders – allowing a wider network of the public to become aware and support the initiative,” shares Aleksandra Artamonovskaja, Head of Arts at Trilitech, Tezos Ecosystem.

The “Nowhere To Run” campaign came to life in 2024 after UNHCR launched its first-ever climate resilience fund aimed at fundraising for 22 identified countries who are most affected by climate change and displacement. It ensures that forcibly displaced people fleeing from or living in climate-vulnerable countries are protected from and resilient to the impact of climate change.

The full collection will be available for purchase on June 20th for World Refugee Day, via the Nowhere to Run gallery page on objkt.com.
