To commemorate the lives lost on the KRI Nanggala 402 submarine, which tragically sank in Indonesia last April, 5300 NFT editions of “53 Never Forgotten” will be sold on the Tezos NFT platform, hic et nunc, and supported by TZ APAC.

All proceeds raised from the sale will be donated to the families of the fallen naval officers, as a means of alleviating their financial burden in the wake of their loss.

The NFTs will be sold for one tez a piece from now until June 30. They can be purchased via or Art Moments Jakarta Online’s website.

“53 Never Forgotten” is a digital art piece featuring a 53-second animation loop of a submarine floating amongst animated waves, overlaid by 53 layers of sound. ‘53’ is symbolic of the number of naval officers who lost their lives in the tragedy.

The art piece was created by husband and wife duo – Ruanth Chrisley Thyssen and Cindy Thyssen. Ruanth Chrisley Thyssen is an Oscar and BAFTA-nominated sound designer and Cindy Thyssen is a digital artist. Both are based in Indonesia.

“The loss of a loved one is arguably the hardest thing most people will go through. The loss of someone special and close to you, a friend, a partner or especially a family member, is devastating. ’53’ is an homage to the 53 crew members who passed away, and the 53 families whose lives will carry on. The 53 will never be forgotten,” – stated the artists

500 of the NFTs of “53 Never Forgotten” will also be given to those who participate in an online Tezos NFT minting workshop, hosted by Art Moments Jakarta Online 2021 (AMJO 2021) on June 7 (8pm JKT).

The workshop will educate people on what NFT art is, and how to mint and store an NFT in Tezos-based wallets, specifically Temple and Kukai.

Through this workshop, TZ APAC hopes to raise awareness of how artists and collectors can harness blockchain technology for their work and create their own NFTs on the Tezos blockchain.

NFTs refer to “nonfungible tokens”, a unique and non-interchangeable digital asset that exists on a blockchain. NFTs are often used to represent ownership over digital items such as artwork, photos, videos, and audio.

It is becoming an increasingly common way for artists to buy, sell and trade and collect digital art. As one of the first proof-of-stake blockchains, Tezos is the most environmentally responsible place to mint, host, and trade clean NFTs, requiring significantly less energy than alternatives like Ethereum and Bitcoin.

“Indonesian artists are beginning to embrace NFTs, enabling them to monetize their artwork, be positive changemakers for their communities, and help grow the creative economy of Indonesia.

TZ APAC is proud to support the NFT creation workshop as part of Art Moments Jakarta, where artists and other arts enthusiasts can come together to learn how to create their own NFTs on the Tezos blockchain,” – Said TZ APAC’s Head Of Marketing, Katherine Ng.

TZ APAC’s involvement in the hybrid art fair comes at a time where Indonesian artists are more actively looking towards NFTs as a tool that can help them generate real and sustainable value from their artwork.

The NFT sale and workshop act as part of TZ APAC’s broader sponsorship of the AMJO 2021 hybrid art fair (June 1–30), which will see a community of Indonesian and international artists, collectors, curators, and galleries come together over a series of offline exhibitions, and online workshops and panel conversations.

The workshops and panel sessions can be joined via the Art Moments Jakarta website –
