Turtle Vision

A new NFT project, Turtle Vision, uses blockchain technology to showcase the perils of plastic pollution and raise funds for ocean conservation efforts.

The generative art series portrays jellyfish intermixed with litter in the ocean, primarily plastic bags, offering a glimpse into the experience of a sea turtle in today’s ocean.

The art collection was created by Eziraros, a rising star in the world of digital art and NFTs.

The outputs offer variance in color, species, clarity, ratio, motion pattern, framing, and additional variables.

This creates a limitless experience as dynamic and captivating as the undersea world itself.

“I care about all forms of life, especially the mysteries of the ocean. Taiwan is an island country and I have enjoyed looking at the sea since childhood.

Unfortunately, our global addiction to single-use plastic is destroying our marine environment. Over 11 million metric tons of waste plastic enter our oceans every year — we have to stop this before it’s too late,” said Eziraros.

In an effort to drive a bigger impact, Eziraros teamed up with American ocean conservation activist Casson Trenor, who is known for many high-profile environmental projects around the world.

“Turtle Vision uses code and chaos to offer us a glimpse into the experience of a sea turtle in 2023, struggling to survive in an ailing ocean. If we are going to reverse our trajectory and rejuvenate our oceans, we need to explore all possible options.

Blockchain technology represents a virtually untapped wellspring of potential solutions. I’m honored to have the chance to explore it alongside an artist as talented as Eziraros,” said Trenor.

Sea turtles are just one of the thousands of species impacted by the single-use plastic that plagues our planet.

They prey heavily on jellyfish, but have trouble distinguishing them from the billions of plastic bags floating in our oceans.

More and more sea turtles are washing up on beaches around the world, having starved to death with bellies full of plastic bags.

Funds from Turtle Vision will support The 5 Gyres Institute, a nonprofit organization, and leader in the global movement against plastic pollution.

Eziraros and Trenor selected Tezos as the appropriate blockchain for their project, largely due to the chain’s negligible carbon impact and sustainability-minded community.

Tezos uses a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism that consumes vastly less energy than proof-of-work chains like Bitcoin.

“It’s important to remember that everything we do, all the choices we make, have an impact. We are publishing Turtle Vision on Tezos because its energy efficiency is in line with our values and the principles of our project,” said Eziraros.

Turtle Vision launches at 3pm UTC on April 16. It will be available on the generative art marketplace fx(hash) on the Tezos blockchain.
