Blueshift announces the launch of the world’s first curated online platform for environmental digital art. Founded by Diane Drubay, Blueshift features exhibitions like Newroots – The Antropophytomorphic Age and offers the largest collection of environmental digital art, available as NFTs. These NFTs are available on Tezos platforms such as Teia Community, objkt.com, and fx_hash, as well as on the Ethereum-based Expanded Art platform.
As the environmental crisis intensifies, the role of art in raising awareness and driving action has become increasingly significant. Since the 1960s, environmental art has long been a powerful medium for highlighting ecological issues, and now, with the advent of digital technology, digital art holds immense reach and can speak to everyone on this planet, greatly expanding its impact.
Blueshift, an online platform dedicated to environmental digital art, is excited to announce its official launch. Spearheaded by visual artist and curator Diane Drubay, Blueshift combines technology and environmental activism to inspire global climate action. Blueshift aims to raise awareness and drive change through curated exhibitions, public conversations, and art collecting.
Initiated in 2021 by Diane Drubay, Blueshift began as a digital art collection on the Tezos-based eco-friendly platform hic et nunc. Over the following years, it evolved through a series of research projects and experiments under the project name “Arteztic”. Today, Blueshift showcases a diverse array of digital artworks that challenge viewers to engage with pressing environmental issues.
Blueshift’s inaugural virtual exhibition, Newroots – The Antropophytomorphic Age, is now live, featuring artworks by Claudia Hart, Gabriel Massan, Nancy Baker Cahill, Solimán López, and more. Built on the artist-run platform Common Garden, this exhibition invites viewers to reimagine their digital identities as drivers of environmental change, reflecting the harmonious relationship we seek with the natural world. In August, Blueshift will unveil its second exhibition, Resonant—What Might We Reach For Together. This exhibition explores how digital artists use the phenomenon of resonance to communicate environmental emergencies and inspire new forms of action.
The platform also hosts the first and largest collection of environmental digital art, featuring 100 artworks from renowned artists such as John Gerrard, Memo Akten, Greta Louw, Kelly Richardson, Joanie Lemercier, HUNTREZZ, Lauren Moffat, Solimán López, Peter Wu, Alex Crowers, and Mihai Grecu, alongside emerging talents like Alfacenttauri, SIMULACRO and Helio Santos. This diverse collection spans various mediums and topics, offering a comprehensive look at the global digital art landscape. Significantly, all artworks presented in the collection can be collected as NFTs, making art collection a supportive behaviour for those creating environmental digital art.
At the occasion of its public launch, Blueshift is proud to announce that its founder, Diane Drubay, has been invited as a guest curator by UnicornDAO, resulting in a curated selection of over 30 artworks by socially and environmentally engaged artists, primarily from the Global South. Titled ‘Wetware Flows: Gender and Nature Interwoven’, the selection will be revealed on July 23rd.
In line with its environmental mission, Blueshift has optimised its website for minimal CO2 emissions, producing only 0.12 g of CO2 per visit. This commitment to sustainability reflects the platform’s dedication to reducing its ecological footprint while maximising its impact on the arts and environmental communities.
Blueshift’s curatorial research will soon be open to more curators and collaborators, as the platform seeks to expand its reach and impact. More exhibitions and public conversations are planned, continuing to explore the dynamic intersection of digital art and environmental activism. Blueshift is actively looking for partners to join in this mission.
