Citzen.app – a collaborative rating platform on the Tezos blockchain
Citzen.app has a minimalistic approach and was conceived to be simple and straightforward. It shows rankings on a web page, sorted by categories and then by the average of votes (stars). Participants can cast their votes by simply clicking on the stars, choosing between 1 to 5. Then their beacon wallet will show up and ask for vote confirmation, after which the stars will be sent.

Web3 is amazing, we all know that. But could web3 learn anything from web2? Which tools have been missing in our community? Are we really that decentralized? Who decides which are the best teams or which projects should be funded?
To answer these questions, the Citzen.app was created. This is a collaborative platform on the Tezos blockchain that aims to become a reference when a community’s sentiment is needed. It’s not only a tool for those who vote, but also something that can provide invaluable feedback for teams and developers about their work.
The Citzen.app has a minimalistic approach and was conceived to be simple and straightforward. It shows rankings on a web page, sorted by categories and then by the average of votes (stars). Participants can cast their votes by simply clicking on the stars, choosing between 1 to 5. Then their beacon wallet will show up and ask for vote confirmation, after which the stars will be sent.
The stars are actually an FA2 token deployed on the Mainnet of the Tezos Blockchain. The name of the token is “STARtz” and it can be already found listed on Quipuswap and on 3Route, under the contract address “KT1GS3uEWWVkAxVfq66EtUn1g6uGX1J72K5Y”.
Citzen.app has deep theoretical foundations. It’s based on the Toronto School of Thought and the ideas of Marshall McLuhan – a communication theorist that once said, “The Medium is the Message”.
Web2 has brought us ratings. Every one of us chooses our Uber drivers, Airbnb locations, Trip Advisor hotels, etc. based on the opinion of other people that have used those products and services in the past. It’s a concept called “trails”. Something used by ants, for millions of years. After finding food, ants leave a chemical trail so other community members can benefit.
Let’s be fair, however. Web3 has got DAOs and governance tokens, and that is undoubtedly useful. But there’s something missing here. And what’s missing is not related to technology. The authors of such systems are true geniuses. Nonetheless, sometimes geniality lacks theoretical foundations.
Web3 dApps should be fun to use, attract people to participate, and give them a sense of purpose and community belonging. That’s why Citizen.app was created with gamification in mind from day 1. Citzen.app intends to grow organically and deliver version updates on a weekly basis. Our roadmap is extensive and includes many new features like “badges”, contests, and prizes (for extra gamification feeling). Feedback and communication tools will also be added. Integrations with Twitter and MailChain are already under development and will allow messaging and notification between platform participants.
For the long-term future, we envision going beyond targeting the Tezos community only, allowing “outside world” items to be evaluated (like restaurants, hotels, music, artists, anything).
Also, users will be able to create and control their own profiles, like any other social network platform, but all based on the Tezos blockchain.
Since its launch, the project has garnered significant attention within the Tezos community, especially on Twitter. For the Citzen.app to sustain this momentum, the backing of the community is paramount. It’s important that the Citzen.app can have the appropriate resources to be able to keep up the good work, so community support is essential. If this happens, like a star, the future for the Citzen.app looks bright.
Etherlink, the Tezos blockchain’s latest Layer 2 solution, is set to redefine the landscape of decentralized applications (DApps) with its upcoming mainnet launch in March 2024. This EVM-compatible, optimistic rollup distinguishes itself from other external Layer 2 platforms like Arbitrum, Optimism, and Polygon, due to its unique enshrinement within the Tezos blockchain.
Starting on December 6 with an exhibition, panels and performances at the Nautilus Hotel, curatorial platforms, partners and marketplaces from around the world will co-curate contemporary digital art minted on Tezos. Over 50 works will be shown, ranging from historical pieces to contemporary editions sold during the event, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Trevor Project, an American nonprofit organisation raising funds for suicide prevention amongst LGBTQ+ youth.
The Tezos Foundation announces its support for the Vigicard project, the first mobile application improving the monitoring of patients subject to drug allergies. Based on Tezos blockchain technology, the application was co-developed by a team of Europe-renowned allergists from Montpellier University Hospital, and Web3 experts Codinsight.
