The Luzern Lions (“Lions”), an American football team from the Swiss city of Lucerne, is creating its own coin with the support of Zug-based fintech ecoo AG, which can be used to pay for the team’s home games. The Lions-Coin is not a speculative token, but a stablecoin pegged to the Swiss Franc. The transactions are secured by the Tezos blockchain technology.
Lions-Coin is launched simply by use of the Ecoo App which is built on the Tezos blockchain. Ecoo App enables users to launch their own tokens and coins for their specific needs for use-cases such as closed payment systems, loyalty programs, and voucher and promotions programs.
– Tourism: guests can pay with «Tourism Coins» at selected shops, railways, and businesses
– Events or festivals, where visitors pay with coins, while the partners, e.g. a catering stand, collect the event currency via the app
– Companies that want to give their employees meal vouchers not only for the canteen, but also for the nearby bakery or the pop-up restaurant on the corner
– Health insurance that credits the insured with “Health Points” that can be redeemed at selected partners. This simplifies the organization of partnerships in the health sector, for example in the area of health promotion.
On the ecoo self-service platform, the Lions independently set up a coin, defined transaction rules, and created onboarding codes.
“The setup of our coin only took a few minutes. With the ecoo system, we can offer our patrons and sponsors something really innovative that is extremely rare in Swiss sport,” explains Carl Holdt, General Manager of the Luzern Lions.
Claudia Sauter, President of the Board of Directors of ecoo, adds: “The Lions are an up-and-coming sports club and are therefore a perfect fit for us. The Lions coin is an exciting first step in our collaboration!”
– ClimaCoins which can be earned in a mobile game developed by Climapower.
– The launch of CSS token by Swiss insurance group CSS with over 1.6 million customers in Switzerland.
