At first glance, the new Tezos-based NFT platform 8bidou might not look like much, but its popularity has grown fast and several big names in the Tezos NFT community have expressed enthusiasm for the platform.
The first 8bidou piece was minted on March 17th. And 10 days later, the platform had registered over 50,000 transactions. At the time of writing this article, 24 hours later, the counter hit over 70,000 transactions.
8bidou’s basic user interface and almost rebellious design go against everything corporate. But we’ve seen what raw design can do within the NFT scene.
The platform seems almost reminiscent of HicEtNunc in a way that was also cyberpunk with a hard-to-understand basic UI.
It took off faster than any NFT platform did before though and made history on Tezos as one of the biggest marketplaces in the scene. 8bidou shows again that cross design and going against what is smooth and mainstream pays off and attracts artists and collectors.
Combined with the nostalgic bitmap NFT style that the marketplace offers, it hits the right spot with many artists within the NFT space.
Bitmap images or bitmap NFTs are pictures that are composed by a limited amount of color blocks/ pixels.
Looking up close, the picture looks like a blurry mix of colors, but looking further away or on a smaller scale, the picture takes more shape.
However, the pictures are not always intended to portray figures or objects, sometimes the pictures are simply an artistic composition of colors.
Currently, you can mint pictures of up to 24×24 pixels on 8bidou. For this size, the marketplace is still in development. Currently there is a marketplace up and running for 8×8 pixel NFTs.
You’ve got to give the 8bidou guys a big fat A+ for consistency if you look at the way the roadmap is displayed. It’s form is random, text doesn’t fit the box and the message is clear: it’s fun and anything goes. “Thinking outside the box!”
We can expect animation to be added and anything of size 64×64 or smaller to be available.
There will be some sort of governance, although a token seems to be out of the question because of the fact that the team is based in Japan, which has strong regulations on this topic.
